In our capacity as hosts of the 127th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and related meetings, we are pleased to invite you to attend the Assembly which will take place in the historic city of Québec, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, from October 21 to 26, 2012.
The Parliament of Canada has a long history of active participation in the work of the IPU. We are delighted that Canada was selected to host this major event for the fourth time in the 120 year history of the IPU, and for the first time in more than 25 years.
Discussions on the role of parliaments in addressing the challenges of citizenship, identity and linguistic and cultural diversity in a globalized world should be both interesting and useful. The deliberations of the more than 150 participating countries and non-governmental organizations can only result in a better understanding among our nations.
We look forward to welcoming you to Canada and hope this Web site will assist you in planning your attendance at the Assembly.
The Honourable Noël A. Kinsella
Speaker of the Senate of Canada
The Honourable Andrew Scheer
Speaker of the House of Commons of Canada
