Message from the President of the Canadian IPU Group
The Canadian Group of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) is very pleased to be hosting parliamentary delegates from around the world for the 127th IPU Assembly and Related Meetings in Québec City from October 21 to 26, 2012.
Québec City is a beautiful and vibrant city, with a rich cultural heritage and history which we are proud to share with the world. We look forward to showcasing Canada's diverse cultural heritage and the francophone character of our country with an innovative and exciting five-day program that will give IPU delegates a true sense and taste of the "Canadian experience".
The Assembly's overall theme will address the challenges of citizenship, identity, and linguistic and cultural diversity in a globalized world. As one of the most ethnically diverse and multicultural countries in the world, we look forward to the Special Debate that will be held on this topic. The IPU – as the world organization of parliaments – has a major role to play in raising awareness and ensuring action on this important issue.
